Is a school/ETB obliged to seek proof of identity?

Proof of identity: A prudent school should satisfy itself that the person asking for the information is one of those entitled to receive it and caution should be exercised in releasing information where there is any doubt on the issue of identification.  Where any doubt would arise, the school should reserve the right to seek a photocopy of photo identification in the form of a driver’s licence, passport.

The school/ETB should satisfy itself as to the identity of the person making the request and can make a note that the identity has been proved but should not retain a copy of the identity document.
