What is an adequate level of data protection?

Organisations that transfer personal data from Ireland to ‘third countries’ – i.e. places outside of the EEA – need to ensure that the country in question provides an adequate level of data protection. For further guidance, see the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner

Given that legislation around the transfer of data outside the EEA is complex, in any case where this arises it is advisable to contact the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner and to seek legal guidance on specific cases.
